Man in the Red Suit

From the moment we opened in Santa Monica in 1979, fine art has always complemented the fine dining experience at Michael’s. Works by Robert Graham, Jim Dine, Chas Garabedian, Sam Francis, Richard Diebenkorn, Jasper Johns, David Hockney, and other contemporary masters contribute to a setting that some guests have compared to a world-class gallery.

Artist Kim McCarty’s “Man in a Red Suit” is a hallmark of the Michael’s menu cover, and several of her paintings hang in the restaurant’s collection. Kim also curates rotating exhibitions in the three private dining rooms on the second floor, which present works by some of today’s most acclaimed and innovative artists. Guests are always welcome to visit during restaurant hours.

“Other Angles,” Photographs by David Strick

Los Angeles-based photographer David Strick captures the entertainment industry in all its variety with one of the freshest eyes around, portraying both well-known and unknown people and scenes in unconventional, revealing ways that make the viewer see them and understand them afresh. His portrait and documentary work has appeared widely in publications including Time and Premiere magazines; for clients including Paramount Pictures, The Gap, and Sempra Energy; and with subjects as diverse as actors George Clooney, Renee Zellweger; comic legends Don Rickles and Rodney Dangerfield; CBS President Les Moonves; musicians Bjork and Lyle Lovett; athletes Shaquille O’Neal, Michael Jordan, and Tiger Woods; and Internet pioneers Jeff Bezos of Amazon.com and Google’s Larry Page, Eric Schmidt, and Sergey Brin.
